The victim and her family watched on a closed-circuit telecast as Superior Court Judge Sohail Mohammed sentenced Eilias Cano in Paterson on Wednesday.

She’d testified during a trial last October that she was nine when Cano assaulted her, leading to his arrest by detectives with the Passaic County prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit in August 2018.

Jurors subsequently convicted Cano of two counts of aggravated sexual assault, as well as child endangerment.

Passaic County Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa DiSturco prosecuted the case. Defense attorney Genesis Peduto represented Cano

Cano will remain on lifetime parole supervision and Megan’s Law registration following his release, as part of his sentence.
